A postponing

So I've been thinking about not doing a Hottie Monday anymore, mainly because it's so superficial. A guy may be hott but so what? If his character is ugly, then he's not even worth considering. (And sadly, doesn't there seem to be many good-looking guys that are so vain, shallow and just not quality? The same goes for girls, too.) Paul Newman's post kind of sparked this thought in me. So I'm taking a break for now. I may post random Hottie Mondays in the future but for now, I'm going to hold off.

On a side note, Angie over at Angieville gave me a shout out the other day. Thanks! As you can see from my blogroll, your blog is one of my faves.

A classic

Most likely you've heard that Paul Newman has died. When I was younger, I watched tons of old movies (yay AMC). One movie I always liked was A New Kind of Love, starring Paul Newman and Joanne Woodward. Later when I learned they had married (and had stayed married!), it just made me happy.

Basically Paul was an ideal hottie: good-looking but with character (after all, looks fade). I admire his philanthropy and his commitment to his wife (that's her in the photo). He is definitely a classic in my book.

In celebration

My Hottie Monday pick has been in two things that I love: Chuck and She's the Man. Admittedly, She's the Man is a dumb teen movie but it makes me laugh so hard that I've cried. I've seen the movie twice and have cried with laughter twice (and at the stupidest part...literally...it's the part when the sprinkler guy shows up...I could laugh right now if I think about it too much). Also, I have to celebrate that Chuck will be on next week. Yay!

Anyway, Jonathan Sadowski has had smallish roles in both but his face is so distinctive and chiseled. And I liked him in both shows. (He's the one on the right. I wasn't in the mood to crop the photo. Also, Amanda Bynes is a rather interesting looking guy, isn't she? Do yourself a favor and watch that movie.)

Happy Hottie Monday!

I know, I know...

This is pathetic but I'm tired and can't think of any hotties I want to feature. I'll try to think of one by next week!

Ahhh

Okay, so I orginally posted my Hottie Monday on Monday but I then realized that "Hysteria"--the video I had posted--didn't really even feature Matthew Bellamy, the sexy lead singer. So...here's a photo instead. (But really, he's better looking when he's singing...and his voice...mmm.)

"You should marry a guy like Chuck"

My dad and I were watching Chuck last year and randomly my dad turns to me and says, "You should marry a guy like Chuck." Well, that's not a bad idea. I really like the show and the character. And I'm really looking forward to the new season starting since Burn Notice has TWO episodes left (whatever USA Network; just toy with my heart and then break it).

Today's hottie is Zachary Levi, the star of Chuck. He's a cutie.

On another note, he reminds me of John Krasinski. You see it too, don't you?

They won

I've thoroughly enjoyed watching the US men's volleyball team play...and win gold! Great job, gentlemen. Sean didn't play too much, but did do an excellent job subbing in to serve. In honor of the team, my hottie today is a guy who did get to play a lot: Rich Lambourne, the libero.

There may be better photos of him out there but all I could find were mainly action shots like this one. Rich is #5.

They are excited to be winners! Yay! Anyway, thanks to him, I now know what a libero is (a defensive and passing specialist who wears a different colored jersey).

So until 2010 (when hopefully my old roommate and I will be there in person), farewell to the Olympics--it's been so nice spending wayyyyy too much time with you every day.

Volleyball awesomeness

Isn't it sad how you can forget happy memories? This week, while watching the Olympics, I was reminded of a happy college memory.

For some reason, my friends and I watched the 2005 NCAA National Men's Volleyball Finals. Why? I have no idea other than it was on ESPN and had tons of good-looking athletic men playing. My favorite athlete was Sean Rooney from Pepperdine. His skill helped Pepperdine win the league...and my heart. Just kidding. Anyway, somehow I had forgotten about him for the last three years--until I saw him play for Team USA Men's Volleyball in the Olympics. I was shocked--how had I FORGOTTEN about Sean?!? So to make it up, I've watched all the USA men's volleyball matches for far (admittedly fastforwarding until Sean plays). Sean now has a "gimpy knee" according to a newscaster, but whatever, he's still amazing. Go #2!!

Haven't the Olympics been awesome so far? I'm fortunate enough to live far north enough to get the Canadian channel (CBC) so I've been able to enjoy more than just NBC and USA's coverage. I've been loving my DVR, too....and I've watched more TV this week than in the last two months combined. Yikes.

Happy Olympic Monday

Since tennis is live today in Beijing, let's feature an American tennis player: James Blake.

He seems like a really nice, good guy. I know my father would approve my dating him. (And James is friends with Andy Roddick! Score!)

Good luck, Mr. Blake!

Special guy

I'm going to be out of town until Monday or so--and then I'll be busy, busy--so I'm doing my hottie post way early. And, well, basically, I think this guy is incredibly hott and even beats how sexy Jeffrey Donovan is in his sunglasses. It's Jules De Martino from The Tings Tings!

Isn't he divine? Mmmm, those glasses are excellent and flatter his face so nicely! He's good looking without the sunglasses, too. And I like their music (seriously, "Shut Up and Let Me Go" and "That's Not My Name" are both addictive--and get stuck in your head faaaaar too easily). Ok, one more time just because:

Sorry America

Alright, my hottie of the week isn't American. (Sorry, America; I will be cheering for other countries during the Olympics.) It's Bulgarian Jordan Jovtchev, who I remember from the 2004 Olympics.

I couldn't find a better photo of him; most of them involve him in some weird gymnastic position. Jordan is 35 and will retire after this Olympics--he's been in six Olympics. I'm impressed.

Canoer

Hottie Monday: Olympic version! Only three weeks away until the Olympics start. Yay!

So here's Scott Parsons, the hottie athlete of the week. He's a canoer/kayaker. I bet he's strong. I'll cheer for you in August, Scott!

Hottie Monday, Olympic Version

Breaux Greer is my Olympian hottie of the week, mostly because of his hair and his name. Yay for unique names and mohawks. He's a javelin thrower. Rock on, Breaux.

happy monday

It's Hottie Monday...and yes, it's the Olympian version. Aaron Peirsol is today's hottie.

As is well documented, I don't normally go for blonds, but this guy seems really nice. I've been watching the Olympic Trials and the newcasters have been gushing over Aaron. He's on my list of athletes to cheer on in August.

Monday, June 30, 2008

oooh yeah

I am irrationally excited for the Olympics. I will probably feature an Olympian from now until September--NBC.com has tons of athlete profiles.

This is soccer player Patrick Ianni, who I feel like I've met, for some bizarre reason.

Go USA!

Monday, Monday

Hello Monday! Today's candidate is Pharrell Williams.

He has a very chiseled face. I like him in purple, too. And while he may look 26, he's actually 35. Way to rock that, Pharrell (p.s. I think you have a cool name). And speaking of cool.........

This hat is AWESOME. Happy Monday.

for a change...

I'm breaking the mold and featuring a hott blond tonight! It's summertime, so let's break out the sunshine.

It's Paul Walker, who starred in one of the worst Christmas movies I've ever seen: Noel. You'll feel depressed, alone and very unjolly after watching it. Even Paul--as an abusive cop!--couldn't save the show.

However, just looking at this poster of him once left me giggling so hard that I couldn't speak or breathe:

Even surrounded by Disney dogs, you're still hott, Paul.

I forgot

I forgot two things: Hottie Monday and the other book I read last week. Um, sorry about the guy...sometimes my inspiration is weak.

However, I thought that the guy who played the groom in Panic At The Disco's "I write sins, not tragedies" video had beautiful eyes (and I'm not a girl who usually notices eyes). So meet Daniel Isacc:
Evidently he took this photo himself. Whatever, watch the video to see him in action.

The book I forgot was the one I actually wanted to talk about: Looking for Salvation at the Dairy Queen by Susan Gregg Gilmore.

The cover convinced me to read it--you can't really see it, but the stars in the background are very pretty and combined with that font, well, I was hooked. Also, in a rarity, the cover copy described perfectly what happened in the book, without giving away anything. Congrats, copywriter--you rocked.

This is definitely southern lit. Catherine Grace Cline, a preacher's daughter, dreams of the day she'll be able to leave her tiny Georgia town. The book follows her from elementary school days to past high school, tracing her dream all the way. The big issue is whether she'll be content with her down-home boy and ordinary life with him, or whether Atlanta will make her happy. (Guess what happens.)

The book is kind of surfacy--most of the characters are almost caricatures of typical Southerners. (At least I think...what do I know, I'm a Yankee.) And the ending of the book was kind of weak...plus the author threw in a major curveball that went no where. That whole aspect really bothered me...it was a new character that shouldn't have been added.

Basically, it just reminded me of a typical debut novel--good but definitely room for improvement. I think this author will get much better in time.

Anyway, overall it was good summer reading and if you're in the mood for Southern lit, give this new author a shot.

Rating: 7/10

I may be shallow...

I don't know anything about Robert Buckley other than what Wikipedia told me, but isn't he a hottie? I guess he's an actor and according to IMDB, he's a foot taller than me. I wonder if he likes "petite" girls?

old cover, but...

So I've never watched High School Musical, although I have caught my brother watching it (yes, he was a bit ashamed). I likely never will. Regardless, this cover featuring Zac Efron is hot.

I think this cover is from January, but whatever, I like it. Happy Hottie Monday.
